4 SKIES projects take advantage of modern distillation and filtration technologies to produce the water it needs from raw water, sea water or brackish water. The water needed for cooling purposes is circulated through cooling towers to limit how much water is used from the source. The amount of water needed for vertical farming is up to 99% less than that needed for conventional farming, so the total impact on available water resources will be minimal. Depending on how much waste heat is available in the project, it may even be possible to distill and filter enough water to make potable water available to local residents. Ultimately, producing enough power, food and water to service the local population is a goal that 4 SKIES has in mind when considering each project.
